Yes, I know that this doesn't happen if you play Broken Steel. I am very much aware of that, if not of my own accord but for the fact that pretty much everyone who's ever commented on this has also brought it to my attention. So please don't tell me that it changes in Broken Steel. I know.

This is another one of those that, if you don't play Fallout 3, you wont get. I'LL EXPLAIN.

So basically, the Jefferson Memorial has been turned into a water processing plant. Daddy wanted to use a special kit that would make it a giant water purifier that would spread clean water all throughout the wasteland. But in order to activate it, one has to enter the chamber and type in the code. The thing is, once that happens, all the radiation is released into the chamber. So much that, it'll kill whoever goes in to do it.

However, if you have good Karma, you gain a friendly Super Mutant companion, who are basically immune to radiation. (You save it from a vault where it was held prisoner) So at the end of the game, you have two options: One; tell the other chick to do it (which ends the game with you being a complete and total ASSHOLE) or Two, you do it, with ends the game with you DYING. But if you ask your super mutant friend Fawkes to do it, they'll say that it's your destiny and not theirs. So you die anyway. I thought that was some bullshit, this would have been my reaction.

Also, Fawkes has a lot of ellipses because it doesn't know how to talk very well.
